I'm an old Chicago boy. I can assure you ... Nashville has NO decent Italian. Not even pizza. Not sure what you mean by eclectic American.

>For future reference I´d also like suggestions for any great ethnic dining

My fave Indian place is Cuisine of India, on 21st Avenue near Vandy.

have you tried 'mario's' [21st ave]? it has a 4 star rating... very expensive though. also, 'sole mio's' [1st ave] is a fine family owned italian resturaunt.

good thai food at 'the orchid' [white bridge road], 'the mediteranean' [21st ave] has some good middle eastern dishes.

I think Amerigo (on West End, I think) is decent italian-american fare

eclectic food can be found at 12th & Porter (name is the address), Blackstone (a brew-pubish sort of thing) on West End, as well, Senachie (more or less a Celtic pub downtown, in the district), Sunset Grill (on music row), Davinci's pizza is pretty good, imo---there are really no knock out eating places there, imo

have fun anyway, it is a great town----

Unless you are one of those who thinks to elevate himself by knocking everything else, you will have to admit that Antonio's of Nashville(NOT the one in Franklin) is at least decent, if not excellent. Objective reviewers would call it decent. Admitting to some prejudice, I consider it one of the best all around restaurants in Nashville and go there at least twice a month. Two of the three chefs are Italian and they are more than decent. Heck, they even have a bartender named Gino.......
Did you just miss this or something?

When I was there a year ago, my favorites were Bound'ry and Cakewalk. Both had interesting (eclectic?) menus and the food was very well prepared. Both a tad pricy.

I'll second someone's recommendation of The Orchid for Thai. Stay away from Chinese--never found good Chinese food in Nashville.

Red, Hot & Blues has pretty good Memphis BBQ.

On Old Harding Road? *Just* decent, and that's being objective. Too pricey for what you get. Mediocre service (I hate being forgotten for 10 or 15 minutes, when it's time to be on our way). Compared to, say, Chicago's Italian Village, a moderately-priced, atmospheric place where two or three attentive staffers make sure you've got everything you need and then some, Antonio's rates a C-plus or B-minus at best. Maybe I caught them on a bad night, but I rarely give a place a second chance after a negative experience. This has nothing at all to do with "(elevating myself) by knocking everything else".

Ten points for the great name (although he spells it wrong) <G> ...

Red hot and Blue has gone black. As for Chinese, atmosphere is of the pigs at trough variety but Golden Dragon in Lion's Head on White Bridge Road has an excellent buffet. They go through the food so fast it stays pretty fresh. Dinners include Crab legs which are sometimes really good. Other that that I have not found any really good chinese restaurants here either.......

For ambience you might try the always genial International Market on
Belmont, right there near the college. Steam tables let you see exactly what you'll be eating and the clientele is as broad as anyplace I've been in Nashville.

Unless you catch their Sunday brunch, which is still walk-in as far as
I know. A lot like Shoney's breakfast bar except for the harpsichord or string quartet playing softly against a monied backdrop, and what are strawberries without a split of champagne?

With a 10% discount if you come dressed as Hercule Poirot or Miss Marple.

And on Franklin Road, which is 8th Avenue as it rolls away from town
IIRC. Their 27oz burger will kill you, it is true, but the half-pound is what God eats when He's in town.

This is an *excellent* suggestion and would put you in the park, too,
which is directly across the street from Wendy's on West End Avenue. Picnic tables, swings, good-sized duck pond and a full-scale replica of the Parthenon. Add Hawg Heaven to that mix and you'll start thinking about relocating to Nashville.

Don't forget about having goats in the kitchen!! A couple of years ago now, the health inspectors were out at the Golden Dragon on Lebanon Rd in Hermitage and found the goats. I thought it was hilarious. Still, I've never had a bad experience there, but it is definitely not as good as the Golden Dragon across the street from Lion's Head. Remember the buffet restaraunt is in Lions' Head, the sit down is across the street.

FWIW, the best Chinese food I've had in Nashville is at the restaraunt at Hickory Hollow in the little shopping center where Friday's and the movie theatres are. The name is Peking something or other I think. Good food.

Mere Bulles is not bad off the menu. The brunch is really only seen as good by people who don't get out of town much. Lots of cold food picked over by other people, surly help fixing omelettes etc.>

For you Antonio's knockers ,Tony is doing the food on the train now and the traffic has increased dramatically since the prime rib and 'tater days>

OK fine,They're big already! But they just aren't that good and the place is awful. For the same price you can go out west to the split (or two other locations) to Sportsman's Grille for a damn good burger in a comfortable environment.

The only real restaurant in Bellevue is Antonios of Nashville and the service is just fine there. The rest is mostly chain crap or "local favorites" like Bud's where you can pay 8 bucks for catfish and beans right out of the can.Good Luck
