One day in Charleston SC

Slightly North of Broad is my favorite restaurant in Charleston. It's nouveau lowcountry fare, everything I've had there has been excellent. It's fun to sit at the counter and watch the kitchen, too, especially if you go alone. No reservations for parties less than 6 people.

I've stayed at the Quality Inn and the Hawthorne Suites, and don't intend to return to either of them. The Omni has a good restaurant, maybe its rooms are good, too.

Careful about limos from the airport. They're supposed to cost $7 to $9 per passenger, but twice I've had the drivers stick me with the 'taxi rate', which means they don't make extra stops and then charge you the $18 rate that a cab would cost. The drivers no doubt feel ripped off when they don't get a full complement of passengers and have to make the haul for just one person, but that's supposed to be the deal. I've resolved to avoid these limos altogether, and just get a cab. At least they're upfront about what they're going to charge you.
