I see you're at Brown, but you must be new there. Providence has so many good places to eat (as does the whole state of RI) I couldn't begin to go into it here! There are 2 types of food that stand out - seafood & Italian. My husband was recently up on business (I'm from Prov. - he's from Boston). He went to Hemingway's on N. Main St. Said it was fantastic. Then there's the entire Hill (Federal Hill). For fancy Italian, the Old Canteen on Atwells Ave. For menus written on a board, long metal tables, and the best cheap, authentic, home-made Italian food you've ever had, Angelo's on Atwells Ave., right across from the Old Canteen. For Northern Italian, Al Forno on N. Main. There were a bunch of great places downtown near Wickenden St., but since I don't live up there anymore, I don't know if they're still around (I know at least one has closed). Oh, Rue De L'Espoir on Hope St. - really great. Go to any Johnson & Wales restaurant in the state - they're all wonderful. For ribs, there's a place called Leo's (?) in Olneyville. Look, just go downtown at midnite, find Haven Brothers, and have a NY System wiener or two or three - now *that's* what I call fine, Providence dining! :) enjoy!
