Cafe Itri in Cranston - a suburb of Providence - also has excellent Italian, much in the style of Al Forno. Dinner runs about 2/3 of AF, lunch is a bargain.

Enjoy!

Adesso, on Thayer street improbably located behind a CVS, has excellent California-style food. I know what you're thinking, "California in Providence?" However, while it's not quite Al Forno, it's worth a look.

I lived in Providence for five years and completely agree that you wouldn't want to eat anywhere else but at Al Forno's when visiting Providence. The accolades it continually receives in this newsgroup and internationally are well deserved.

But if you must dine somewhere else, try Hemenway's or the Blue Oyster for seafood, Taste of India for excellent Northern Indian food, or one of the other fine Italian restaurants, like Pizzico. Good Luck!! There are so many good restaurants in Providence that you (almost) can't go wrong.

P.S. Anyone want to go to Charlie Trotter's in Chicago this weekend? :-)
