The hot restaurant in Providence these days is Al Forno, an Italian restaurant near the University. Much ballyhooed in the "dining media", it features thin crust grilled pizza and other oven roasted specialities. My son, who attends Brown, is quite taken with it and I look forward to trying it when I take him back to school in the Fall. Jim Z. - Washington, DC

I ate at Al Forno a couple of weeks ago, and was underwhelmed.
A more interesting restaurant in Providence is the Bluepoint
osyter bar, a very small fish house just a mile or so from
Al Forno. Bluepoint has one of the largest wine lists in
the country, with many available by the glass. Regardless
of where you go, be prepared for outrageous prices (and this
coming from someone in L.A.).

Dinner for two, with the grilled pizza, wine, and dessert (it is an experience and you need to order it all) can run over $100. Other great places in Providence-- L'Epicureo and the Blue Grotto on Atwells Ave. Great Italian food. Also, if you are looking for grilled pizza, try Bob and Timmy's Grilled Pizza on the plaza on Atwells Ave. You don't have to order a full dinner-- they just serve great pizza and pasta.
