In Seekonk, MA (a few miles east of Providence at 213 Taunton Ave), Audrey's is run by the students of Johnson & Wales University (an excellent hotel management college). Dress is dressy-casual and the meals have been described as "creative American cuisine". We have found the food, selection and service to be excellent. Not cheap, but worth the value. I suggest calling for reservations - especially on weekends.

Angela's on Federal Hill is a cozy Italian place on Federal Hill that is great food and inexpensive.
