I don't know about east of the city but the best pizza I've found in the area is south: Caruso's, in Mt. Lebanon. Great pizza (both traditional and white) and a friendly staff. ****************************************************************** Jim Mann [email removed] Transarc Corporation The Gulf Tower, 707 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219 (412) 338-4442 WWW Homepage: file://grand.central.org/afs/transarc.com/public/jmann/html/Home.html

Best pizza in the Burgh?

You will either love it or hate it, but you must give Vincent's Pizza on Ardmore Blvd. right outside of Forest Hills a try.
Talk about subjects which have been beaten to death. Well my favorite places are Mineos on Murray Ave in Squirrel Hill and Pino's on Reynolds in Point Breeze. Both are quite good but I guess the locations don't suit you. --------------------------------esp------------------------------------------ James Stepanek NRA member Graduate Student Materials Science and Engineering Carnegie Mellon University God created mankind, Samuel Colt made them equal. Lebanon, is also outstanding. Only problem with Caruso's is figuring out where to put your car while you pick up the pizza.
Another chance to plug my neighborhood favorite: Rialto's in Greenfield. I don't know about it being the "best" in Pittsburgh, but it does have good pizza, good subs, good prices, good service. We eat there more often than I really care to admit! Part of that is because their phone number is so easy to remember: 421-2121. If we're out running errands, we can call from a pay phone and pick up our order on the way home. I think I'll stop now before this becomes any more pathetic! Mary
The restaurant downstairs from us, Portobello, has great pizza. Excellent crispy crust, not fluffy and soft like most I've had. Unfortunately, he only delivers to So. Side/Mt. Lebanon, not Squirrel Hill.
Laura and others: Vincent's Pizza Palace down on Ardmore Blvd. in Forest Hills is the best that I have discovered so far. Like you, I live in Churchill - but only for a few months. Vincent's uses huge chunks of sausage and pepperoni, which being a true carnivore, I approve of. The atmosphere is entertaining, and returning to Churchill afterwards is a bitch - you can only go exit south on Ardmore and have to go a least a mile before you can turn around - but worth it. Also, I've enjoyed Mineo's on Murray in Squirrel Hill and have gotten good recommendations to Minutello's in Shadyside from this group. You will either love it or hate it, but you must give Vincent's Pizza on Ardmore Blvd. right outside of Forest Hills a try. I'm glad you are enthusiastic. I never loved or hated Vincent's in the past 14 years. I mostly stopped eating there a long time ago because you never know when the loser will be open. He used to close all the time for long periods of time. Now I'd never eat there because of the health hazards. Never once 10s of pizzas did I see him serve sausage that was not raw in the middle. People joke about it, but you are definitely eating cigarette ashes at times. The counter where he works is unsanitary. Sure, go there to see a PGH institution. I know one or even several visits probably won't kill you. It isn't really worth the effort to bother though. If you do go there, you have to sit in the back dining room; it has netting all over the ceiling with fake grape vines that looked like they raked the yard and threw the leaves up there, but the truly great thing is the little Christmas lights laced through the grape vines. Of course, if you sit in the front room, multiple velvet paintings with STRONG religious themes will be your treat. Bill

I am a pizza addict so I have searched the city and suburbs for the best pizza. I live close to vincents, I wouldn't reccommend it personally. the best pizza in my opinion in da burgh is Fiori's pizzaria on the corner of capital ave and west liberty ave in beechview. they also opened a second shop in south park. They are open until 3am too, so if ya get the late night jonez for pepperoni you can go there. good luck and happy eating! Darla
Hi: I have tasted some nice pizzas at a place on Carson St. called Bella Pizza. They sell by the slice and that way if you don't like it you won't have to pay for the whole pie. Just my $0.0001.
