They don't : serve whole cooked pizzas so you have to take it home and bake it yourself, : but it is perfect for Superbowl parties!!

I know I am probably entering this thread really late, and I can't say that Nick and Willy's pizza is not the best pizza in the world, having not been there. But by far the best pizza in Wisconsin is a a small place in Platteville, WI called Pizzaria Uno (not to be confused with the chain from Chicago, I think). There BLT pizza with a side of mayo is fantastic. Also try the Brat Pizza for a real taste of Wisconsin.

And as long as your there don't pass up one of there famous Long Island Ice-Teas.

Nope. World's best pizza is Scaffidi's in Woodville, Florida.

Nothing can beat it.

If you are ever in Santa Barbara CA visit THE BAKERY and you will find
the world's best pizza. I don't work for them. Just a fan.

you are *all* wrong! the best pizza in north america: loui's pizza in hazel park, michigan.

loui was the "inventor" of buddy's pizza, which is widely considered the best pizza chain in the detroit area, having sprung from a single location at six mile and conant. back in the early '70s, loui and his partners at buddy's had a falling out, and loui wanted to open his own place right across the street to show up the people at buddy's.

buddy's promptly sued to keep loui from opening his retaurant at all, claiming the pizza he would make there is really the culinary property of buddy's. in the end, both parties accepted a settlement in court wherein loui could open his restaurant, but it had to be outside a three-mile radius drawn from the original buddy's. that's was loui put the place on dequindre, just north of nine mile.

however, i digress...

why is loui's the best? it's a deep dish square-pan pizza (i mean deep *deep* dish) with the chewiest crust this side of heaven. (i'm always fighting for those corner pieces!) also, there's a hint of garlic butter throughout the pizza that gives it a true sicilian flavor. magnifico!

There is no question that the best pizza in the world is made on Wooster Street in New Haven,CT by Sally's pizza. The pizza is thin crust, made in coal fired ovens in operation since the 1940's. There is no equal to their fresh clam red or white pizzas. People come from all over the world to savor them and are willing to stand in line for hours. I'm surprised that it has not been mentioned yet.

Don't forget Pepe's on Wooster Street, too! They make a much better white clam pizza than Sally's. It is said that pizza as we know it in this country began on Wooster Street. Well worth the wait (which in the summer time can be 3 hours just to be seated!) It is also not unusual to see a celebrity eating there after they perform in New Haven. The Stones ate there after their surprise gig at Toads Place in New HAven a few years ago. Highly recommended!

I find myself craving these pizzas all the time!

You're got the right town, but not necessarily the best joint. Mostly suckers from out of town and Yale (same thing) will stand in line for good New Haven Pizza. There are plenty of other places, some with the same type of coal-fired brick ovens, that serve as good or better pies, with no waiting in line required.

I always know I'm far from home when people look at me strangely when I ask for a white pizza...

	Da Big Kahuna on Oahu.

Sal's on Mamaroneck Ave in Mamaroneck, NY.

	That sums it up.

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised too. BUT WHAT ABOUT PEPE'S? You have to recommend them if you're recommending Sally's. It's a traditional tug of war for Wooster Street bragging rights. Pepe's and Sally's are pretty close in terms of pizza style (crust so thin it defies gravity). What I like about Pepe's is that the establishment' oven area is so clean, if the pizza fell face down on the floor I wouldn't worry too much about a health hazard. Sally's, by comparison, is a dingy, overcrowded hole-in-the-wall. But I have to admit, it has a certain atmosphere that is lacking at Pepe's. I took my Ohio relatives to Sally's merely because of the Gary Trudeau connection, not because the pizza was any better.

Oh, yes the pizzas: Pepe's prefers tomatoes, whereas Sally's uses sauce. I have to give a very slight edge to Sally's because their pizza is slightly spicier than Pepe's. On the other hand, if you like mushrooms, Sally's appeared to be using canned rather than fresh ones (at least the last time). But both establishments produce nearly perfect New England style pizzas.

No matter which establishment you go to, don't forget the pastry shop east of Sally's and Pepe's (can't remember the name!) for cannoli, etc.
