Big Jims in the Hollow, Panther that is. If you want an unpretenious place try the Garden Cafe on East Ohio on the NorthSide. It is across from Stefenfords (sp) a great record store. Each table has their own lamp on the wall. Do not order a BLT, because when you order it they never have bacon or bring your own. If you like hotsdogs there is a place on Butler in Lawrenceville maybe around 35th or so that is called by two names which I can remember, but I think Frank is part of the name. It is near an antique store. Check it out Tom Someone wrote: > > ...and am soliciting restaurant tips. i had great success with this newsgroup > last year (thanks again to all who responded) and am eager for more > suggestions. some of the pittsburgh spots i like, to give you an idea of my > preferences: tambelini's, primanti bros., grobman's (?) gab 'n' eat, the > original o's, jojo's. where else can i go to find unpretentious hearty eats? > not interested in "gourmet" places, though price is not a concern. just want > pittsburgh atmosphere and tasty food. bar tips welcome too. > > thanks! > > matt from new york >

And there's always Chiodo's in Homestead (just off the High Level Bridge)
toodles, gretchenThere is a place in McKees Rocks called The Prima Donna. My husband and I went there last time we were in Pittsburgh. Coming from the NY area, an Italian restaurant suggestion may not interest you, but it is definitely one of the best dinners I have had in a while. Enjoy Liz from NJ Someone wrote: > ...and am soliciting restaurant tips. i had great success with this newsgroup > last year (thanks again to all who responded) and am eager for more > suggestions. some of the pittsburgh spots i like, to give you an idea of my > preferences: tambelini's, primanti bros., grobman's (?) gab 'n' eat, the > original o's, jojo's. where else can i go to find unpretentious hearty eats? > not interested in "gourmet" places, though price is not a concern. just want > pittsburgh atmosphere and tasty food. bar tips welcome too. > > thanks! > > matt from new york > >
If you're downtown at lunch time, grab a fish sandwich at the Oyster House on Market Square. Try Jerry's in Bridgewater. It's one of the last places with car-hops. Menu is printed on the sides of the building. Standard fare: burgers, fries, shakes, etc; better than typical fast food places, a little more like diner food. Call before you go. I know they are open in the winter but not sure of the hours. Anna

If you liked Krogmann's Gab and Eat, why not try the Del Kid on Steubenville Pike (Route 60) in Robinson Twp. across from the Burkett School. We shall just say looks can be deceiving.... The interior/exterior (read scary looking) is nothing to write home about, but the food is great and the portions enormous. Think about a bacon cheesburger.... one huge patty of meat with about half a pound of bacon on top. I am partial to their Western Omellete (6 eggs) and fried potatoes. I would get those over fries any day. Also, just down the street from Krogmanns is Rocky's Bar. They have a kick ass fish sandwich. May need to order another bun... Enjoy!
I can't believe no one has mentioned Tessaro's on Liberty Avenue in loomfield. The have the best burgers in town according to my friends, though I usually opt for the grilled Tuna steak. Enjoy! Patty Patty Martin In Acchord, mixed a cappella www.inacchord.com
