I stopped on Craig St. to go in search of cool Christmas cards, and noticed that the Arabica near Forbes is now some other trendy coffee spot. Curiously, the Arabica on E. Carson in the South Side has also been replaced by Tuscany Cafe, another trendy coffee spot. I tried the latter for lunch the other day and was reasonably impressed (if a bit discouraged at paying $1.25 for a can of soda). Besides the traditional array of coffees (which I don't drink), they also have a selection of sandwiches (on rustic breads) such as the firenze, thin-sliced prosciutto, sliced tomato, provolone, and basil-pesto mayo. They have a few pizzas, several different salads, soups, and an assortment of baked goods. The foods are reasonably priced for the South Side ($4 - $6). I suspect the City Theatre crowd would be happy with this place (unless they are more into the Beehive). Tuscany Cafe is at 1501 E. Carson.
