Certainly worth the price IMHO. The fish was at least as good (if the selection was a bit more standard) as Monterey Bay, and the selection of deserts was better. toodles, gretchen
having lived in pittsburgh for 90% of my life, and having eaten at most of the restaurants that receive mention on this bboard, i would to add that wright's is one of my favorite seafood restaurants. if you can get past the 300 year old waitstaff and their carton-of-cigarettes-a-day breath, i think you'll find the experience quite enjoyable. --brad
reading about wright's seafood inn yesterday on this bboard created a yearning for some seafood. so last night (only a few hours after i wrote the above post) my wife and i went to wright's--boy was i wrong in my summation of the experience. my bedford seafood platter was just bad--shrimp was like rubber; salmon filet smelled like a locker room; coquille was old and very fishy. wife's lump crab imperial took about 45 minutes to arrive and when it did was still not done. told waitress about quality of food and she responded "oh" and walked away. needless to say, i will not be frequenting wright's again. --brad

Started going to Wright's in 1965. last time I was there was in 1993. Have watched prices rise (that's life) and quality drop (that's not) over time. (My folks stopped paying for family dinners around '74) I was always willing to pay a little extra for a nice meal at Wright's, it was a special Friday out, but each time we went, starting around '87 I'd say, it was just a little less nice and a lot more expensive. We kept trying, until it just seemed dismal and all the fun went out of going to what used to be "THE SPOT" for an elegant meal, and the "best place around to eat seafood" (rivaled only by that fancy place downtown with the neon lobster sign, that's now gone). Either we got more sophisticated, or Wright's got less quality, or both, but for me now, it isn't worth the money to get what they serve. IMHO it's all "OK or good" food (corn on a menu year-round can get tough), and I've never had anything awful there (a little salty, yes) but for the prices, it should be at least "great!" food. It doesn't have to be "excellent, primo, swoon-over" food or presentation but I'd rather not spend that much for a menu of what I call "blue hair" food. Tell me they've cahnged in the past few years and I'd try it again! Christine
