 hello foodies,

Looks like there's a new Indian restaurant in Oakland.

It's called "prince of india" of course.

I looked at the menu, but I haven't tried it yet.

-Looks to be the standard Northern Indian fare.
-Full bar. Wow, that's a first. Imagine getting toasted with Indian
servers running back and fro. "Hey, uh, cannn I...get anoder
 samos-a-whazit, Prabu?"
-It's right on Fifth, next to Wendy's, next to Jay's Bookstall.
-The inside is nice enough, but it's weird. Suddenly, you're not in pgh
anymore. I can't describe it anymore than that.
-I couldn't help but noticing that the font of the menu is exactly like
"Star of India"'s. In fact, the dishes look the same. (Just from memory.)

Well, try it and tell me what it's like.

Its on fifth street across from Childrens, in the old Pizza Hut space.
(someone called it a former 'italian place'...). Anyway, the part that
is unique from all the other Punjabi-style restaurants is that they have a
alcohol license, and therefore have several Indian beers, etc. The food is
average. The waiters are friendly, but either overstressed or a bit
spacey. They forgot our appertizers dispite being reminded a couple times,
but were very apologetic and promised to do better next time.

 Went there...

The menu is very similar to other northern indian resaurants, and the pricing
is similar (on the higher end...)
There are a few unique dishs, but not many.

The food was pretty good. Well put together, and at a "7" fairly
spicy. The rice is good, the breads were ok (but not spectacular).
My sweet lassi didn't have enough yogurt flavor for me...

Over all, worth a try. And they give you hot towels at the end...

(the only really unique thing is that they have alcohol, including a couple
 indian beers...)
I would rate them as better than India Garden, but not quite as good as
 Taj Mahal.
