Lidia's Italy

I went with a friend on friday night. Here is the rundown:

We got there at 7:30, had to wait for a table, were given a pager that
lit up when our table was ready, and spent about 45 minutes over
aperitifs and breat at the bar.

When we were seated, the first thing I noticed was the incredible wine
list. There is an entire page of Italian wines (categorized by color
and "heaviness"), and every bottle on the page was $20! What a great
idea! We had a very nice bottle of... now I can't remember... it was
 a medium-bodied red beginning with a "p", someplace I had never been
 to.

We ordered our food (we had decided to share two entrees): Gnocchi
with a duck sauce and grilled calimari in a light wine sauce. Both
were extremely good. The calimari reminded me of grilled squid I used
to get in a fishing village in Mexico... My friend said it wasn't as
tender as some that she had in Monterey, but I thought it was quite
tender. The gnocchi and duck was superb. Also, the food came out of
 the kitchen very quickly.

We shared a piece of warm chocolate cake for dessert. I was so full
that I only had a bite or two. It was really good, but I was getting
full to the point of discomfort at that point.
