For your Pittsburgh area dinner, let me suggest The Tavern in New Wilmington. This is a wonderful little college town in an Amish area about an hour north of Pittsburgh (not far from where I79 and I80 cross). Drive carefully because there are many Amish buggies on the road, yet none of the tacky commercialism you find in the Lancaster Dutch country. The Tavern is a wonderful country dinner house that has been servinge extroardinary food for decades. Dinners include all the courses yet prices are $8 - $15 complete. For your salad, select the spinach salad with house dressing. The best entrees are the country style ones, like ham loaf or chicken and dumplings. Best of all, though, are the "Sticky Buns" served with every meal. They are worth the drive all by themselves. Enjoy! Randall Hollister (Dallas)

Enjoy! -------------- Let me add to this by saying this place is a very nice little country inn'ish place and perfect for a date or other outing. Our meals consisted of the following: They start you off with some homemade sticky buns to start (vry tasty/right from the oven) Me: something called a "cranberry shrub" (cranberry juice with sherbert), spinach salad (honey mustard dressing), strip steak (rice, bean medley), butter pecan chocolate sundae She: Fruit cocktail, house salad, also strip steak, apple crisp (which she thought was excellent) The steaks also were *very good* -- nice sized cuts, nicely seared and tasty. Total bill about $38 for two. They have no printed menu but the nice waiter "calls" off the menu orally at your table. The list of menu choices for the evening (from what I recall) included a variety of meat, pork and seafood dishes as well as a number of interesting soups and desserts. The place is owned by a nice couple (David and Sandy) who are from the area. Very friendly and they will tell you about the history of the place. They were curious to know that we found them on the net so if ya go so if ya go tell them more about it. Also...the town is dry but they said they allow BYOB. Best to call for a reservation too....even though you probably don't need one. Casual dress. 724 946 2020. Anyway...the drive up and back is very scenic...and you do bump into Amish buggies on the way. Jim
