Your best bet would be heading to the Olde City section of the city. It's the in place to go in Philly, with many restaurants, bars/lounges, clubs, art galleries, shops, etc. For dinner, try to get reservations if you can or you'd have a tough time getting a table. Check out Buddhakan, Cuba Libre, Novelty, Fork, or the Continental. For a place to drink try Marmont, the Continental, Lucy's Hat Shoppe, or jump in a cab for a quick ride to Finnigan's Wake or McFadden's.

I think the key to your question was the word "funky." The first thing that came to my mind was Astral Plane...17th & Lombard. It doesn't come any funkier that this. A.P.'s been around for a good 25 yrs. & still pleases. Another suggestion would be The White Dog Cafe at 34th & Sansom, right across from the law school at the University of Pennsylvania. I couldn't find a website for the former, but White Dog has a terrific, very interesting one. White Dog Cafe - Philadelphia, PA
