I had been there once many years ago when it was still Scotty's. Couldn't remember what I thought about it at the time. I ordered the "Pittsburgh" special - 2 eggs over medium, home fries, kolbassi, and toast. Also ordered oj and a grilled pecan roll, requesting they give me the one with the fewest pecan on it as I *hate* pecans. So, my grill roll comes and it's really awful. No, not because of the pecans, but it was really salty as though it had be salted before it was grilled, but I'm thinking it was just that it picked up all the excess salt on the grill from all the other stuff that was fried on it. Anyway, it was disgusting. I couldn't finish it. Then I got the rest of it. Everything was too salty which supports my theory of why the roll was salty. The eggs were too salty the potatoes were too salty and too greasy and believe me I'm not afeard of grease like most folks today. I don't mind it to a certain extent but this was too greasy even for me and that takes some doin'. The kolbassi was not the best and kinda small. And their water is the worst tasting stuff I've had in the Pgh. area and that's sayin' somethin'. Well, suffice it to say I'm not goin' back. On a more cheerful note, I spent last weekend in Reading at a cat show and went to a great diner there - the West Reading diner. It was a great building and the food was good. Also went to another diner-type place that wasn't a true diner but looked like one on the inside and it also had good food. So, my weekend went great until I woke up in the middle of the night Sat. night/Sun. morning and was sick. But that only lasted about 24 hours and I'm better now, in case anyone cares. :-) My cat did okay. She is now a Double Grand Champion Alter in TICA, for those who were dying to know. Kate

Charlie's Diner in Wilkinsburg - review
Dale's at the end of Murray in Greenfield has some dnynamite homemade soups when the owner's wife makes them. Particularly good ham and bean soup. mary wrote: > I went to a place on E.Ohio I called the Green Garden. It is an old bar > across from Stephenfords (sp) records. Upon visiting the Regent Square Theater to check out The Bread, My Sweet ( go see it if you haven't already, it's been held over for the past few weeks -- with good reason), and I ate & D's Six Pax & Dogs. I had two Chicago dogs, they use Hebrew National I believe, that were very good. Their fries were also pretty top notch as well. They have a TON of import beers and I think on Friday's you get a $1 off of them. It was pretty packed but before our food was ready I was able to grab a stool. An old favorite of mine also is Tom's Diner in Dormont, which is attached to the Vasta Lounge. They're open 24 hours, always a plus in Pgh, and I almost always get breakfast. The little old waiter lady that sings can be a real hoot too. Mariani's restaurant in Bloomfield, which is connected to the Pleasure Bar has good food too, with a very reasonably priced wine list, nothing too special, but I'm happy not to have more choices than Woodbridge & Riunite. :) --B. wrote in message news:... > Dale's at the end of Murray in Greenfield has some dnynamite homemade soups > when the owner's wife makes them. I'd vote for the Park House on E. Ohio St. on the Northside. Their seafood chowder is delicious and the serving is substantial. The chili is good, too. Atmosphere is pure Pittsburgh. The owner is usually behind the bar and all of the employees are friendly. Oh, and don't forget the free peanuts (shells on the floor, please) and popcorn. Nice place.
While hardly a neighborhood tavern the Greek church on Ohio st. offers a real good lunch, fish, chicken, other stuff, cooked in a Greek manner on Wed. for only $5.50. We went there last Wed. only because the Park House's special that day did not appeal to us. Papercut wrote: > I'd vote for the Park House on E. Ohio St. on the Northside.
