A year ago, I wanted to take my girlfriend out for her birthday, and I
asked around for the best restaurant in the area, price no object. I
decided on Cafe Allegro. The food was decent, but not memorable. The main
thing I remember about the atmosphere was that it was rather crowded,
although not loud enough to bother us at all. (Ask for a table upstairs
 when you make a reservation.)

But the one thing I will always remember about the experience was the
incredibly bad service. I've been to nice restaurants in many cities, and
I've never before experienced such terrible service from a place at this
price point. I considered telling the guy off and complaining to his
superior, but that would have made a bad night worse.

Well, this is just a single data point, and I'm sure you'll also get your
fill of responses telling you how great the place is. Maybe the guy was
having a bad day. But the point is that I know restaurants in other cities
were they SIMPLY DON'T have bad days. I have never once had a reasonable
dining experience in this pathetic excuse for a city. Pgh.food, indeed!

Oh, then you've never been to The Terrace Room at the William Penn Hotel,
or Sterling's at the Hilton, or the Brewery on the NorthSide, or Mallorca
Restaurant on Carson's street, or Dagwood's on East Ohio Street, or Cafe
Victoria on Western, or to Sunday Brunch at the Vista (or William Penn), or
 ...

Perhaps I've made my point! If not, I could go on. There are a variety of
places to have a "reasonable dining experience", at a variety of price
 ranges.

(Some of us might just resent a judgemental, negative attitude such as you
have shown. Lighten up! <:-| )
