Hello Pgh'ers, I just tried the 17th Street Cafe on the South Side this weekend, and I'd like to pass on a recommendation. I moved to the South Side last May, and I'm still a long way from trying all the local restaurants (I usually prefer to cook for myself). Anyway, this place is *very* small, maybe 12-15 small tables. The bar occupies half of the front room, and the back room is about the size of an apartment-sized bedroom. The decor is tasteful, although the place was a bit dark. I had veal with artichokes, which was in a very rich cream sauce with some roasted peppers. It was very tasty, but a touch salty. My friend had angel hair with crab in (another) rich cream sauce. Neither dish was spectacular, but both were well prepared and beautifully presented. I also had a roasted garlic and potato soup, which was quite good. The place is a bargin, considering the quality of the food. Our bill came to around $45, without drinks. We didn't get any appetizers, but the menu had a somewhat strange mix of these. We saw crab-stuffed mushroom listed beside wing dings and cheese sticks. It definitely didn't seem like a place that would carry bar food, but oh well... The service was outstanding (and I'm picky about that). -- Adam
