There are lots of places in Portland, I'm no expert on sushi, but here are some places I've been to and liked (sorry I don't know the names of all the places but you should be able to find them from my directions). Let me know what you think of them:

* Samida's (NE Sandy Blvd. at about 78th.
* Bush Garden (Downtown on 9th & Morrison in the parking garage
across the street from the Gallaria)
* Tampopo (Downtown on sidestreet off SW Broadway, one block
north of the Benson Hotel, around the corner from Mary's
  club)
* (Name ??) NW 21st & Johnson (across the street from Seafood
  Momma's)
* (Name ??) SW Macadam, South of John's Landing, just past
Buffalo Gap, almost to the Sellwood Bridge. Fun place
where they sometimes have sumo wrestling on TVs.
* Sapparo, Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, Raleigh Hills

And don't forget, out in Beaverton: Marinepolis / Sushiland. It isn't the very best sushi I've ever had, but it's still not at all bad, and the prices are very reasonable, especially compared to the fancier up-market sushi bars. And best of all, it's patronised by quite a few Japanese folks living in the Portland metro area... if it's good enough for them, it's good enough period!

Also, isn't Zen still open downtown? I recall some good fish there, as well as bowls of edamame (green steamed soybeans in the pod). Yum!
