If you are looking for the best chinese food - Try a "Taste Of China" located in Lake Oswego which is a bedroom community 9 miles south of Portland. The owner like myself is a transplanted New Yorker. The food is great, the service is solid and the prices are moderate.

My favorite Chineese place is Fong Chong. They have great dim sum. Go on a weekday and get there before noon to get a table without waiting. Saturday's are the most crowded. I also like Tampopo which is a little japaneese place on S.W. Broadway. It's a hole in the wall, but the food is good. There's a brew pub next door too, that's always a benefit. Of course, Lamthoung Too Thai restuarant is next door, but their service is poor (IMHO). There's another Japaneese place on Broadway, menu looks good, but I haven't tried it.

You can also try the restarants on NW 23rd or NW 21st. There's good ones like Papa Haydn, Zefiro, Defina's, Cajun Cafe, Garbonzo's. There are lower cost ones such as Santa Fe Taqueria or Macheesmo mouse too. For decent Bagel's, go to Kornblatt's on NW 23rd. They boil their bagels which appears to be rare in the Portland.

Oh yeah, you can also try Jake's for seafood. Powell's bookstore is nearby too, which is a large bonus. :-)

Mike

For quick healthy food, Macheezmo Mouse is indeed terrific. We also enjoyed:

Restaurant Murata (Japanese) at 200 S. W. Market St. McCormick & Schmick's Harborside at 0309 S. W. Montgomery Uogashi (Japanese) at 107 N. W. Gough St. Cafe des Amis at 1987 N. W. Kearney the restaurant at The Heathman Hotel at SW Broadway at Salmon

At the Japanese places and at Harborside I remember it was easy to get a nice vegetarian meal. The Pacific Northwest is generally a vegetarian friendly place.

enjoy!!
