Last Thursday, a new restaurant opened in the building formerly occupied by Shujiro. (2206 Lee Road, between Cedar and Meadowbrook).

My wife and I stopped by for lunch today. The atmosphere is upscale and somewhat in the "California" vein. It is a big, open room with abstract art blending into the unfinished-looking decor. Tablecloths, wine glasses, and moderate table spacing. There is a long bar and a long, well-selected, and varied wine list ($4 - $15 per glass). The drafts are Great Lakes Brewing's Dortmunder Gold and Edmund Fitzgerald Porter.

We split an appetizer (calmari) and an entree (black pepper fettuchine with eggplant. The calmari was nicely spiced and mixed with chunks of veggies. Not tough at all. Pan fried, not deep fried. The futtuchine was good, about on a par with Cafe d'Oro nearby at Coventry and Euclid Heights Blvd.

The dessert menu changes weekly. We split a chocolate trifle. Light and chocolatey, mixed with citrus and strawberries. Excellent!

Lunch items (appetizers/entrees) run from $2.95 to $8.95. The dinner menu was about twice as expensive. Desserts at lunch were $2.95 to $4.95.

Being in "our" neighborhood, we'll be back!

Cheers,
