I often have a vegetarian green curry with tofu there. Farther afield from Durham but also very good is Sawasdee, on Capital Blvd. a few miles north of the inner loop. Since you'd like to stay in Durham, I recently ate at Pao Lim in Durham on 15-501, around the corner from Nanas and evidently where Ocean Emmy's used to be. The food was delicious. I had Lemongrass Tofu on a bed of spinach nicely seasoned with garlic. They have a menu that is Asian/Thai. I know they have Pad Thai, but if you inisist on curry, call ahead to find out if it's on the menu. I know several people who've eaten there and they are all very positive about their dining experiences. Diane

Thai recommendations?

King & I is the best Thai I've had in the area. It's located in Cary just off of NE Maynard at the Reedy Creek shopping plaza. I've never had a bad meal there. If you like your dishes spicy, tell them; just be ready because they'll take you at your word. Happy eating. It's not bad, but I think Sawasdee over on Capital Boulevard is a lot better. Much smaller restaurant with a better overall menu. e
I just wanted to follow up after requesting recommendations for Thai restaurants in the Triangle. On Saturday evening, my mom and I decided to drive to Thai Villa on Buck Jones Road in Cary for our first Thai experience. After trying to find Buck Jones Road a few times, we made it to the restaurant. There were probably 3 large (5+ person) tables open, so they asked us to wait. We were a little annoyed that they wouldn't give us the corner booth, which remained empty the rest of the night. But we were seated fairly quickly at any rate. The servers were very nice, friendly, and prompt with food, water refills, and the bill at the end. They didn't seem to mind that we couldn't pronounce anything or that we had questions about the food. Mom and I both selected vegetarian dishes--I ordered the tofu with green curry sauce, and my mom had tofu with a creamier peanut and coconut sauce. Both came with the same vegetables--carrots, broccoli, and cabbage mostly. We both expected to be served more rice than what came with the meal, but we did get more brought to our table for no extra charge. The food was good. My green curry was spicier than my mom's peanut curry, so we ended up trading since she likes spicy food. I would have liked less cabbage and more spice in the dishes--we ordered both dishes medium spicy. A greater variety of vegetables would have been nice as well, but maybe these are traditional Thai veggies. We decided to get dessert, which was very good. I had the mango with sweet, sticky rice which I really liked. My mom had coconut ice cream with peanuts, which she thought was good. So, overall, the waitstaff at Thai Villa was very good and our dining experience was nice, but we just aren't fans of Thai food, I guess. We agreed that we'd both rather eat at an Indian restaurant for the spiciness and variety of vegetarian dishes. -KK
