These are in Chapel Hill:

Crook's Corner: Delicious & innovative Southern food 411: great Italian food- not too formal- try the lasagna Flying Burrito: Funky and just what it sounds like There is also a really good Polish restaurant on Franklin St. next to the TGIF outlet whose name I have forgotten.

Crooks Corner has a pig on their sign.. could this be what you are thinking of? BTW, I ate there last year and it was really great. Magnolia Grill in Durham (I think) is also wonderful, but much different than CC. Also, John Mariani has written very favorably of Nana, a new place in Durham. Has anyone eaten there?

Good Unique Restaurants in Raleigh, NC.

One of the best steakhouses I have been to is in Raleigh. It is the Angus Barn, which is out on Highway 70 near the exit for the airport.

I Second this. In Raleigh itself, check out the 42nd Street Oyster
Bar and their steamed Oysters, a uniquely N.C. way of serving them. Also, about 45 minutes east of Raleigh is Wilbur's, the best N.C. style barbeque in the state, IMHO. It's on U.S. 70 east of Goldboro.
