It figures that a chance to go to a real Greek restaurant (maybe) and a chance to meet Scott would coincide with my presence in North Carolina. *sigh* Well, was it "real" Greek or just gyros, avogolemo, kalamata olives, and feta cheese? Is Scott's shirt as easy to recognize as he said? Enquiring minds want to know. For the record, we did go to the Acropolis in Greensboro and the food was as good as ever. Not *great* Greek food, but good home- cooked Greek food with all the right touches and an extensive menu. I told Jimmy Contos (the owner; he used to date a roommate of mine) about us not having any Greek places here, and of the local Greek folks saying that they couldn't support such a place because there is not enough of a local Greek community. Jimmy got a good laugh from that one! Greek community? In Greensboro? He said if he had relied on the local Greek community (all 3 or 4 families total that he knows of in an area of well over 1,000,000 people) he would have been out of business in a month. And the only Greek place in NC that was opened in the vicinity of a sizeable Greek community (in Charlotte) folded within a year due to lack of business. If anyone knows of a responsible Greek family with a head for the restaurant business, I know of at least one potential investor -- me!
