Personally, El Dorado is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the triangle, although I have only tried 4 or 5 of them. My wife and I eat at the one in Durham (near the 54/55 intersection) regularly. It's the closest we've found to the Mexican food we would get in Texas (not sure how that compares to California). >To be honest, the best Mexican food I've had in the Triangle was at Tres >Magueys in Cary and at Torero's in Durham, but I've had other people say >"gack!" when I recommended those places. > I have heard other people say they like Tres Magueyes a lot, but have never tried it myself. Probably the best bet is to try every place you can find yourself - you'll probably find one you like fairly well. This brings me to another question I've asked before but never had an answer to. Is there anywhere in the triangle that serves New Mexico - style mexican food? - John Keyser [email removed]

Try their enchiladas with the green chile salsa (tomatilla??). It's not as good as the hatch green chile that makes New Mexican food great, but it is the closest I've found here. Try it out. It's near the Imperial Cinemas in Cary. By the way, hasn't anybody noticed that El Dorado / El Rodeo / Los Tres Magueyes have the same menu??? I've read somewhere that they are all owned by the same family. I guess they've found a market for cheap, bland, americanized, "mexican" food. (I'm constantly amazed that people will stand outside the El Dorado on 54/55 at lunchtime waiting to get a seat. It really isn't that good!!! Oh well... .Mike.
