Two excellent French and northern Italian restaurants within your price range that I know in L.V. are both in the Mirage hotel, "La Bistro" for French and "Portifino"(sp?) for Italian. Reservations are a must.

The Mirage also features two Oriental restaurants, although I haven't tried either.

For a quick lunch, I would pick the "Cal. pizza kitchen" located at several hotels, including the Golden Nugget and Mirage.

Enjoy.

Ahh yes, the Bakanal Room!!! The Very Best Food, and probably the only 5 star eatery in L.V.!! The cost for two (my wife and I) was $150 and was well worth it, considering its all the wine you can drink... And yes, the atmosphere is just wonderful, and so are the neck rubs.. (^%

You might want to check out Pamplemousse, a very fine French restaurant on Sahara just east of the strip. It approaches the upper end of your price limit.

Entrees are wonderful, and the grand marnier souffle (order it when you arrive) is to die for.

For a little fun, there is Carlucci's Tivoli Garden in Liberace Plaza. It's an Italian restuarant located next to the Liberace Museum. If you go, visit the piano room, lots of glitz and mirrors.

I ate at Pamplemousse last November, and while it is a nice place it's really not worth the money. The people there have a very poor attitude towards their customers, it's like they are doing you a favor by letting you eat there. For my money, something like Hugo's Cellar at the Golden Nugget has a very nice atmosphere, good food and reasonable prices.

Now, I consider myself a gourmet of sorts, and I will probably embarrass myself by saying this, but I agree with an earlier poster in saying that I thought that the California Pizza Kitchen at the Mirage was fantastic. The pastas are really unusual and they're quite tasty. An excellent price-performer, certainly compared to Pamplemousse. And by the way, they give you a very nice (free) sundae for dessert if you tell them it's your birthday (it really was in my case)! However, it's not a fancy place at all.
