Fresh salads, good bread, excellent steamed green beans and slightly undercooked (for my tastes, I know they are SUPPOSED to be that way) new potatoes. The one thing is, if you order steak, make sure to order it rare. That is the only way that they won't cook it to death. To them: med rare --> med well, and rare --> medium. A lot of places are like that in our little hick town. Born and raised here, so I GET TO SAY THAT. Otherwise, the food at South City Diner is consistently good. I've never heard a single person ever say a bad thing about the place.

When I was on a visit to my sister last month, we went there 3 times: 2 dinners & 1 breakfast. She lives on Sidney, just two blocks off Grand, so it is really close. Like their liver & onions and also their roasted Italian sausage with peppers & onions & polenta. Also went to Ricardo's on Lafayette Park, Yemanja Brazil, one of the South Grand Vietnamese places, and Addis in U. City. I grew up in St. Louis and the restaurant possibilities now are incredible compared to what was there when I was growing up there. Gosh, it's almost a real city :-))))). Leo
