Figlio's - Also located in the Plaza. Great Italian food. Stroud's - Dumpy hole-in-the-wall dive located at 85th and Holmes. Without a doubt, the BEST pork chops and chicken I have ever had in my life. My favorite KC restaurant - no visit to KC is complete without a visit to this place. My least favorite place in the KC area (so far) Haywards - This is reputed to be a really good barbecue place, and maybe it is but I thought it was gross. My fiance and I ordered some sort of sampler for two thing that turned out to be about 5 lbs of fatty, stringy, overdone meat of indeterminate origin, along with about two teaspoons each of cole slaw and baked beans. It was cheap, but really bad. Have a good time! Kansas City is a great town. > Bob > > [email removed] Larry Hettinger

Kansas City places?
Robert A. wrote: Bob, The best restaurant is the American. Less formal and less expensive, check out Metropolis. Venue should open next week and it will be very good. Others to consider, Ya Ya's, JJ's, or Grand Street. The best BBQ is Hayward's despite other opinions to the contrary. Chances are you will not like Bryant's unless you like to eat in a real pit. Haywards really beats both Gates and Bryants as far as I'm concerned (although Smoke Pit in Omaha beats all three of them ;-). I've never had the 'sampler', but I've had various combination plates and never been disappointed. Keep in mind, though, that BBQ ain't lean cuisine. It will be well done, cooked till very tender, served in large portions. ;-) Good day JSW
