I'll give a few recommendations:

Where to eat: I've never had a bad meal in Duluth. Here are a few places I particularly like:

Bellisio's: 405 South Lake, Duluth, MN 218-727-4921
A rather nice fairly elegant Italian restaurant, and Minnesota's
  largest wine list. Moderate.

Fitger's Brewhouse: 600 East Superior Street, Duluth, MN
A nice brewhouse with both on-site and other locally brewed beers,
and above-average pub fare. I recommend the Vegetarian Pub Burger
washed down with their Oatmeal Stout. Cheap. www.brewhouse.net

Bennett's: Also at 600 East Superior, Duluth, MN
A very good restaurant with seafood and excellent desserts,
overlooking Lake Superior. Pricey, but very good.

New Scenic Cafe: 5461 North Shore Scenic Drive, Duluth, MN 55804
218-525-6274. A nice little cafe about 6-7 miles up the lakeshore
from Duluth, serving breakfast and lunch. Menu changes frequently,
offering seasonal specialties, good desserts, vegetarian options,
etc. A little more expensive than your average breakfast place, but
very delicious meals. I recommend getting the french press coffee
and the Thai Ginger Pork sandwich. www.sceniccafe.com.
