Along Needham Street (which is what Highland Ave is called when it crosses the river into Newton), about a mile away or so, you've got Skipjack's. If you keep going on Needham Street, make a left at the light onto Center Street and go under Route 9, you'll find Jamjuli (Thai) on the left. We've had consistently good lunches there; I don't know about dinner. If you turn left there (Walnut Street) there's a cute-looking English pub type place on the left that I haven't tried. If you don't turn left on Walnut, you'll end up in Newton Centre, where you can try any of the restaurants along Union Street (by the T station.) I like Union Street Cafe, which is kind of hidden in the back but has a great beer list and pretty decent food at good prices in a casual, comfortable room. Sol Azteca is along that street if you want good Mexican. I think there is also a Thai and an Indian restaurant on that street as well, but it's one-way, so you'll have to go into the square and hang a right and then another right to get on the street. Or just park in Newton Centre and walk. If you want fancier, Appetito is right there on Beacon Street. If you make a left on Highland Ave. from the Sheraton and go over 128 , you'll come into Needham Center. I got good recommendations (mostly from Chuck) when I asked in late January, do a Deja search for details. I've been to Iguana Cafe (pretty good) and we've had take out from Not Your Ordinary Joes (also pretty good.) Chris

Recommendation for Needham area restaurants?

The Blue Ginger in Wellesley, Asian/fusian, rather expensive, make a reservation for dinner. Try the Chilean Sea Bass. Mills Falls in Newton. Continental, rather expensive, make reservations. I haven't been there in quite some time. Skipjacks in Newton (on Needham St. aka Highland Ave.), fish, like Legal I think. I haven't tried it yet. Mandarin Cuisine, on Highland Ave, just inside 128, Chinese, reasonable but not spectacular. Good Crab Rangoon, IIRC. Bai Thong, Highland Ave. Needham, Thai. I've tried another place owned by the same people, and that place was nice. Resonable. Not Your Average Joe's, Downtown Needham, eclectic Italian/bistro not too expensive, but not cheap. Might be too noisy. Iguana Cantina, Downtown Needham, Southwestern. Reasonable chili, pretty good fahitas. not too expensive, but not cheap. There are more. Chuck Demas Needham, Mass.
There's a nice newish Italian place in Newton Upper Falls called Piccola Luna. It can be a little hard to find, but these directions should work well. From the Sheraton, go north up Highland Avenue and take a left at the first light after you cross the Charles into Newton. Follow this road as it curves to the right. Piccola Luna is just before you cross a railway line, and before the first traffic light you'll see. I don't recall menu details - we ate there once about six weeks ago with friends, and will go back. Prices are moderate - entrees are mostly in the $14 - 20 range, as far as I can remember, with a couple higher. <j>
