My information is two or three years old, but hope it helps....

Innovative/ eclectic haven't been the easiest thing to find in coastal Maine. A place we've only been to once: Cafe Miranda in Rockport. The one visit was very good, but since then, we have never been in Rockport at the same time it was open. Very eclectic: lots of Carmen Miranda / kitsch in the decor.

Couple of years back we ate at Jessica's in Rockport. It's in a converted house south of town. Excellent food, nice decor, good waiters, would go back again. It's well known and popular: make a reservation with plenty of lead time. Some people from Camden we met go to Jessica's for special dinners.

Camden has so many places, the high dollar tourist business seems to keep them changing... there must be something adequate in town. I remember an OK steak-and-seafood-salad-bar place, maybe called Peter Ott's. nice decor, lots of brick, OK wine list as of 3 years ago.

Belfast has a nice cafe/bar on a side street right off the main street (north or northeast by a half block???). I can't remember the name but there are't a lot of places to choose among. Good and a little funky/eclectic, not terribly romantic, maybe a better lunch choice.

In Bucksport, there's a restaurant / B&B called the Hermitage, excellent food. A little far north for your query, though.
