We recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in dowtown Portland,ME. Nice hotel in a very good location next to the Portland Museum of Art, The Civic Center, and the Old Port District . As a matter of convenience, we ate at the hotel restaurant which was pretty bad. Very slow service and the lobsters that finally arrived were barely edible. The meat was very shrunken, soft, and rubbery - all signs of a lobster that had been out of the ocean so long that it was starving to death. We had breakfast at Big Mama's down near the waterfront. It is a small diner-like lunch place that puts out good food cheap. Not fancy, but homey. It was not possible to get reservations at Street and Co on Saturday night. Book well in advance if you want to go there. It is very popular right now. The menu at Kahtadin looked very promising, but they are only open for supper, which did not fit into our schedule. The once popular Chinese restaurant in the center of Old Port is now closed.
