Probably within your 50 mile radius rule from Skowhegan is The Porter House in Eustice, Maine (about 15 miles north of Sugarloaf, the big ski mountain). Wonderful roast duck and an extensive wine list.

Also, the 25 mile or so road north from Eustice to the Canadian border (Route 27) is one of the more beautiful in the area. Unspoiled views of mountains and lakes. This is the route Benedict Arnold took with his army in his ill-fated march on Quebec City.

Well within your range from Skowhegan is John Martin's Manor in Waterville. Very good steak and seafood. Fantastic popovers.

I haven't been in a couple of years, so if it's not there anymore, let me know!
