Let's see.... I have been in Israel 8 times, some of my favorite places to eat: Not in any order, just as they come to me..... 1. Rimini Pizza 2. Tachana Merkazit (Central Bus Station in Tel-Aviv) god those big bageles are good. 3. Dominoes in Ramat Gan. 4. The Kibbutz Dining Room on Erez or Gal-On 5. Alaska's in Tel-Aviv if they are still around (it may be Jerusalem) 6. The Chinese Restaurant just North of Dizengoff Center on the right side of the road. 7. Any Cafe on Ben Yehuda in Jerusalem.... there are so many....its hard to say....actually when ever i went i was on such a tight budget I couldn't afford to eat at any decent places, but god knows I love Israeli-Glatt-Kosher-Chinese-Vietnamese Cuisine..... As a general rule, the best food is Mediterranean/Middle Eastern. Why go to Israel for Chinese when you can go to your local chinatown? In no particular order, I recommend any of the following: Tel Aviv: Taboun (located in the old port in Jaffa -- Med. seafood); Avazi or Shipudei Hatikvah (family style grills, located in the Hatikvah quarter). Jerusalem: La Rotisserie at Notre Dame (classic mideast cuisine in a hotel owned by the Catholic church); HaTzrif (sort of a local hangout. Several branches, all good); Melech HaHumus (on Ben Yehuda -- the best humus); Mei Neftoah (located near the central bus station. Moroccan food with a gorgeous view). On the highway between Tel Aviv and Herzliyah: Ahmed et Salim (mideast grill, family style). Enjoy! Fay R. From X Wed Feb 15 21:57:02 EST 1995 Article: 13855 of rec.food.restaurants
I recommend the "Apple & Pear" in Jerusalem, as well as a good dairy restaurant 2 blocks up from the Laromme Hotel in Jerusalem (I don't know the name.) I would also suggest any place in the renovated artists colony just below Ben Yehuda Street, and Mei Naftoah. In Tel Aviv, the best fish is the last restaurant on the pier, called Benny the Fishman. Service there can be almost non-existent when it's full, but the fish is wonderful, and the view is worth it. good luck.
