Last night (cinco de mayo) I was pulling my hair out trying to come up with a Mexican restaurant that had outdoor seating. The only one I could think of was El Jardin on Clark St. Drove past but the waiting line looked too long. I was looking for a fairly nice restaurant, as opposed to the little 'taquerias' that are sprinkled all over the city.

Any suggestions? North Side, South 'Side, 'burbs?

I ended up at Las Cazuelas, Lawrence and Elston. Great food, not the ordinary menu.

Rick,

We had an excellent 5th of Hellmans dinner last night at Adobo Grill, which has outdoor seating. I had not been to Adobo Grill and every thing about the restaurant exceeded my expectations.

We ordered the special Cinco de Mayo tasting menu and it really wowed me, everything from the quesadilla de huitlacoche to the agua fresca de jamaica had nice clear flavors and the chef, Dudley Nieto, is at the top of his game.

Enjoy,
Gary

Kind of squeemish about Lindo Mexico. The also own COHIBA on Lincoln, and that was shut down last year for healthcode violations. I won't elaborate.

I remember seeing them shut down. Please elaborate.

My wife and I visited Ixcapuzalco, on Milwaukee Ave. just north of Logan Square, and we cannot say enough nice things about it. We ate some of the finest Mexican food in town, and we recommend it wholeheartedly. The food is light, prepared with fresh ingredients, and the menu changes periodically. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable.

The chef, Geno Bahena, worked with Rick Bayless at Topolobampo/Frontera Grill... He learned well.

I also went to Ixcapuzalgo recently. It is very nice. The mole is very rich though, so be forewarned!

If you want something casual, Twisted Lizard at the corner of Armitage and Sheffield has some outdoor seating. It's a nice place to go to sit outside and drink margaritas and eat chips in the summer. I've only ordered food a couple of times. It isn't too bad and not as expensive as Ixcapuzalgo or Frontera Grill (though more americanized texmex than the others).

La Pasadita's on Ashland & Division.

With three convenient locations (within 1/4 of block of each other)

And while Dining 'Alfresco', make sure the AShland bus doesn't
  run over your foot.

IXCAPUZALCO is on the elegant/fancy side in every way. Dinner entrees are priced around $20. It is very nice, although I am not sure if they have an outdoor patio (desired by the original poster). On balance, I kind of prefer ABRIL, which is on Milwaukee and Kedzie right at Logan Square, where the prices are ~1/3. :) I didn't bring it up because it lacks a real outdoor patio, not counting a few chairs on the sidewalk.

On a different note, I strongly recommend a Chinese restaurant named "FRIENDSHIP"; it is right there on Milwaukee, about a block south of IXCAPUZALCO.
