IMVHO, "Best" - probably Spiaggia, but more that $25 a head, (I assume your budget isn't really $250 per person. If it is, then fly to Italy on a cheap weekend fare, for the best of the best.) Favorite neighborhood trattoria - La Bocca della Verit 4618 N Lincoln Ave (773) 784-6222 Wonderful, but basic, Italian home -cooking. Price $25 to $35 per person. Best all-around Italian cooking in a small, charming spot - Marco's 2360 N. Clybourn (773) 348-2450 Everything out of Marco's kitchen is fantastic, and authentic, especially the pastas and risottos. Price will be $35 to $45 per person. Service can be a little pushy. Best pizza and calzone, (the hands down winner) - Pizza D.O.C. 2551 W. Lawrence (773) 784-8777 Pastas play a second fiddle here to the pizzas and calzoni. Order anything that Gualtiero cooks in his brick oven, including the New York steak. Joel

Yes RichSam, I really can't argue too strenuously that it is difficult to find here what you will find there, ( and I travel to Italy 5 or 6 times a year.) However, let me suggest you try Pizza D.O.C., if you haven't already. It is owned by Liz and Cesare, who own La Bocca, and the pizze and calzoni are about as authentic as you will find anywhere. When I eat there, I taste Italy. Joel wrote in message news: ... > On Sun, 9 Jan 2000 14:10:57 -0600, "J.
