For really hot food, the no fooling around type that makes you sweat and cry with happiness I can recommend two places. Neither of these is in the downtown area but either of these will give you a legitimate hot food burn.

The first is a Thai restaurant on the Northwest side of Chicago. Thai Aree has excellent Thai food and does not Americanize their food for non-Thai patrons. When we go there and ask for hot we get HOT. I have even asked for extra hot and this was hot enough to send me into a tailspin. I am not a neophyte pepper eater who thinks a sport pepper on a hot dog is hot.

The second is Yak-Zies, this is a bar and grill that has good burgers and my favorite hot wings in the city. Yak-Zies has 5 levels of wings: Mild, Medium, Hot, Oh my gosh and Killer. The Killer wings are Oh my gosh that are rolled around in powdered cayenne pepper. They are VERY hot. If you do not have a car I would imagine that Yak-Zies is easily accessible by public transportation as it is just west of Lake Shore Drive on Diversey. Yak-Zies is also a great bar to have a drink in.

If I really needed a hot food fix and could not get to either of these places I suppose I would just go to a Japanese restaurant and load up on wasabi or make a salsa with fresh habenero peppers. Good luck, Gary
