There's Periyali's but it is in Niles. I don't know if you want
to drive that far but I like the place.

On one occasion, I waited 45 min at that restaurant just north
of Greek Islands (I forget the name - famous for fish). We gave up after that and went north. We were seated immediately at Periyali's and were able to enjoy what remained of the evening.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. On Richard Moburg's suggestion wound up at Mykonos on Golf just West of Milwaukee. (Across from Golf Mill Shopping Center. This place had a lot of Mercedes owners eating there, but the prices weren't bad. Lots of older folks, couple of family birthday parties.

I had the old standby mousaka & it was pretty good. Came with the peas in tomato sauce which were also fine. (There were a couple of intriguing dishes involving shrimp, but I was not feeling well so went for the comfort food.) My sis-in-law ordered a special involving spinach, chicken, cheese & filo - this sounds good but was not. I think it's because we expected something delicate & got something more on the order of, I dunno, something like a burrito with a crust. It was also huge enough for two people. My wife's swordfish kabob was okay, and my older son - not an adult but eats like one - had what he thought was an excellent roast lamb dish (my wife said it was overdone but still good - I didn't try it.)

I ordered a homemade greek sausage appetizer (also available as a meal) & it took a little while to figure out that the best way to eat it was with a bit of feta and a drop of lemon juice - but once I wised up it was very good eating indeed. The galataparoutikos (which I know I can't spell unless I spell if f-l-a-n) was excellent. I can tell because I don't like it but this one was an exception.

Total bill for four adults with some fries for the kid was 74 dollars with tax but before tip. We didn't order wine or any other liquor. On the basis of one visit, it's hard to tell, but I'd say that this place is a notch below Greek Isles, but still worth going to if you have to fight the Kennedy to get to Greektown. Plus the valet parking is free. I'd eat there again, and likely will.

I think it hit it right on the head... About as good as it gets around that area but not as good as some of the Halstedt Street places.
