I have been watching the decline of great Chicago Deep Dish Pizza for many years now. Gino's East was once the greatest but since they were bought by the Lettuce Entertain You chain they have plunged in quality and atmosphere. Giordanos was also in the league with Gino's when they were a little storefront on 63rd, but then they expanded to new locations and the quality dropped. You can still get an occasional good pie but many turn out like deep crust pizza soup. Unos and Mi Pi also droppped their standards when they went national. What's left? Nancy's is still very good and Connie's in their new place on Archer is trying to keep the quality high. I have also been enjoying Leona's for the past few years but even their expanding pizza universe is effecting their product. They used to give you the best cookies with your check but I was disappointed last time as I recieved a plate with some tiny little tasteless store bought cookies.
