I have a weakness for really good home-made corned beef hash with two perfectly poached eggs on top. Oftentimes if a restaurant has it on the menu, it is canned. Ugh. I know of a precious few places to get the real thing in Chicago and would like to know if anyone else has a recomendation. The best corned beef hash I have ever had in a restaurant is at the Mallers Building Coffee Shop, 2nd floor 5 South Wabash. The hash is fresh, crispy on the outside, not too greasy, with discernable strings and chunks of corned beef; the poached eggs are impeccable, poached in a little vinegar-water free-form style and laid on top of the hash. The second best restaurant corned beef I've had was at Eli's The Place for Steak. It is very good; beef with just potatoes formed in a patty shape. The Berghoff stand-up bar has adequate corned beef hash, a few notches above canned. It is more finely ground and baked in big pans, so it isnt as crispy. Anywhere else got good CBH? Manny's, perhaps?

Manny's, perhaps? Used to be that Brokers Inn over by the Board of Trade had some /incredible/ CBH. The myth was that it was made out of yesterday's Corned Beef. They'd sell it to go by the plate, so we'd send someone over in a cab to pick up fifteen plates every once in a while. Their location was 'consumed' by the CBOT expansion a couple of years ago, but I've heard that they're open in the basement of the new building. Anybody? trent
