Chicago must go restrurants
==========Robert Flanagan, 18/09/95========== What are the must go to resturants in Chicago? Looking for best bargian, most atmoesphere, etc. Try Albert's. A small intimate eatery specializing in desserts. Their meal specials are usually wonderful and priced unbelievably low for the area and quality. They only seat about 20 but usually no wait. Albert's 52 West Elm just a couple of blocks from N.Michigan. Geja's on the 300 block of Armitage is a different kind of place. Dark and romantic looking. Fondue specialty. $60 for 2 but we did no thave anything alchoholic to drink. Enjoy, Richard Moreland

It's in Andersonville, way north. Call 411 for address. Try their pasta, it's good. Also try the Berghoff. They have served women for at least 7 years now. DO NOT go to Gejas. It sucks, it's expensive, the decor looks like a cave and don't take the advice of anyone who will spend $60 on FONDUE!!! For unbelievable, cheap, authentic mexican, try Tecalitlan on Chicago Avenue (just west of Wood St.) Don't be alarmed by the neighborhood. Their brunch is a real hangover cure (fresh squeezed orange juice for $3/glass). You can't beat the jukebox either (ABBA songs in Espanol). ____________________ . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . / / / / \ .' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '. / /___/ / | .' '. / / | .' John Baldy '. / / | .' Another excellent place which is much more casual is Heaven on Seven. Some of the best cajun food you'll find in the midwest. (believe me, as a hardcore cajun/creole food guru from the midwest, I've looked...)

you walk in you get a plastic card that you take around to numerous booths that have all types of ethnic and American food. The set-up is designed so that it seems like you're outside with trees and cobblestone flooring. It's not expensive and the food is great. It is on the casual side, though.<SNIP> >> The Berghoff >>(I know I will get flamed for this) Management makes the waiters pay the cook for the food before >they can deliver it to the diners. The Berghoff was sold by it's original owners a few years ago. I think each store was sold to different new owners. I can't speak for the Ontario unit, but the one in the Loop has gone down the tubes. The service sucks, and the food is nothing like it used to be. If I were the Berghoff's, I'd try to get my name off the place. The new owners seem to be doing everything possible to ruin what was a pretty good place.
