Mama's Fish House near Paia on Maui was *amazing*. Be sure to make a reservation. They even told us the names of the people who had caught our fish. Also, the restaurant is located right on the ocean, so the setting is wonderful. Enjoy!

In Maui I suggest the Hyatt's Swan Court for brunch, Sam Choy's Hula Grill in Whaler's Village, Kappalua for a glimpse of the lifestyles of the rich and famous, Moose's in Lahina for cheap eats, round-the-clock drink specials and an "free" 12-egg omlet with 2-1/2 pounds of potatoes (if you clean the plate). If you want good seafood, try Mama's. Prices are steep, but the lunch menu offers the same fare with fewer embelishments for a lot less.

But whatever you do, don't ring the bell at the Lahina Yacht Club.

On Maui, do NOT miss Roy's (I hear there is a second one now and they're both great). Also there's Avalon. Listen, neither of these places is cheap but that's what you work all year for, right? Marco Polo

A Pacific Cafe in Kapaa is THE restaurant to go to on Kauai. Excellent food and we had no trouble getting in without reservations during spring break this March.
We also had good sushi at a little hole-in-the-wall in Kapaa. My kids like California maki and I was surprised to see they used real crab in the California maki, and fish eggs as a coating instead of sesame seeds. However, Kapaa is a long drive from Poipu for sushi when there are sushi places in town. A Pacific Cafe is definitely worth the drive.

We stayed at the Makai Club in Princeville and did not have a good meal anywhere in Princeville with the possible exception of a decent breakfast at the Princeville Hotel. The luau at Tahiti Nui in Hanalei was small and crowded. The only interesting feature was that fellow diners at the next table were the rock singer Meatloaf and his family. We did have a good chicken burger at Bubba's Burgers in Hanalei, and the menus of some of the places we browsed in Hanalei looked very interesting.

A lot of stuff on Poipu Beach is still non-functional from the hurricane. That appears to include the Stouffers and Sheraton hotels.
