Gasthof Luisenbrau is at Luisenplatz, across the street from the grounds of Charlottenburg palace (southeast corner); they brew their own beer on-premises, and serve hearty Berlin-style German food from a buffet counter. The interior is nice and old-fashioned, dark-wood panelled walls and communal wood-topped tables. Best of all, the prices are reasonable. Hardtke's, just off the Kurfurstendamm on one of the side streets (it's in the phone book, and very easy to find), also serves hearty Berlin cuisine, and accompanies it with Pilsner Urquell and Budvar on tap. There are some nice places in the Nikolaiviertel, too; the Alte Nussbaum is a recreation of the original place that had been there for a very longtime, and the Gasthof Georgenbrau, near the statue of St. George, right by the river, has good beer brewed on-premises, and generous servings of Berliner food at reasonable prices.
