Having just returned from a week in Atlanta (on business), I am pleased to report that there are a LARGE number of EXCELLENT places to eat. At the top of my list I would have to put Ciboulette, a fairly new French place owned by Jean Banchet, who is supposed to be a famous French chef. I went with 6 people, the food was absolutely FANTASTIC. The menu is heavily fish/seafood based, with some meat/poultry. I started with smoked and marinated salmon (two different kinds on the same plate), had a salad of various strange greens (and reds), and then the "Rare Tuna Au Poivre". For dessert I had a puff pastry filled with custard and fresh raspberries and strawberries. It was all great. The dishes that the others had were equally delicious. We spent $50 per person, including an inexpensive bottle of wine and an 18% tip. One caveat: no reservations accepted, but if you get there by 7 or 7:30 you should be able to get a table (or so they told me on the phone, and we got there at 7:30 and did not have to wait although it was almost full at that point). There are places that sit many stories up in the air and revolve, but you won't eat as well. Other places I ate at (and enjoyed): Pano's and Pauls, excellent and rather fancy, Pricci (trendy Italian) and Buckhead Diner, all in Buckhead, a suburb about 10 minutes from downtown. Also, Dailey's, a downtown place that is owned by the Peasant chain (never did get to the Pleasant Peasant this time, oh well). We were going to try 103 West, a French place in Buckhead, but decided on Ciboulette instead. 103 West is supposed to be excellent as well, but I think we made the right decision. -- Bill [email removed]

The food was good and it had an ambience which could be considered romantic. akf
Rachel:
In the downtown (which is dead after dark, don't be foooled into
thinking its the social center of Atlanta) if you're on an expense account, try the Sundial restaurant, high atop the Westin Peachtree Plaza, the tallest hotel in Atlanta, and probably the tallest revolving steakhouse anywhere.
About a mile up the street in Midtown, I'd recommend Bridgetown Grill,
on Peachtree Street accross from the Fox Theatre. Its caribbean, and its wonderful.
A few more miles up the street and you'll be in Buckhead, which *is* the
social center of Atlanta. The good restaurants are far too many to mention, but right on Peachtree Road (same road, different name) is John Harvard's Brewhouse, which is excellent. Just off Peachtree on Pharr road is Atlanta Fish Market, and if you go up peachtree a little farther, you'll come to Piedmont, where among other restaurants you'll find Buckhead Diner and Buckhead Bread company.
Check out a Zagat guide because there is just way too much great food to
be found in/around Atlanta
