I've watched tourists with little interest in food and no ability to speak French harass the staff. I will let you in on a few clues. The guide Michelin is relatively reliable for recommendations and prices. Look for restaurants that offer meals at prices you can afford and try them. The Michelin offers no distinction in quality once a restaurant falls below it's starred classification, but generally speaking all the listed places offer a reasonable value. The GaultMillau Guide offers a more complete rating system , effectively from 13 to 19 plus a list of unrated simple respectable places. Paticia Wells' reviews restaurants for the International Herald Tribune and has two web sites. (I don't have the URLs offhand, but both are linked from my links page <http://www.worldtable.com/links.html>) She reviews restaurants of all price ranges, although most fall above the price you set. Remember that prices quoted in France generally include both tax and service although it's not uncommon to leave another 2-5% for really good service. Prices do not inlcude beverages. That means coffee and bottled water as well as wine. Nowadays it's not at all impolite to ask for a carafe of tap water if you don't feel like paying for bottled water. Wine Spectator magazine recently ran a full issue devoted to Paris. Although it's primarily devoted to the high end haute cuisine restaurants with spectacularly expensive wine lists, there are a few neighborhood type places.

Paris restaurant recommendations?

He details several eateries, including some not ordinarily found by tourists. It was so popular, I loaded it into an autoresponder. Here's how to retrieve it: mailto:[email removed] and type only: Paris Dining in the subject line of your message. This TV-Guide-sized booklet is published weekly on Wednesday with a listing of all the week's cultural events. In the center they have a section on the latest restaurants--in English, no less! More specifically, check out Marie et Fils on rue Mazarin in the VIe arrondissement. Hope this helps. Paul Have you played with your food today? You're looking for French cuisine, I assume? I like "Le Villaret", on the Montagne Ste-Geneviève, in the 5th Arrondissement (métro Cardinal Lemoyne). It's FF 130/person (I had the "Confit de canard", and the "feuilleté au roquefort" which I loved, and the Magret de Canard also). There's another restaurant called "Le Villaret" (I don't remember where) in Paris, and I heard it has a good reputation. I had *excellent* sushis tonight in the 4th Arrondissement (I don't remember the name of the street, but the restaurant is called Ao Yama, and it's on the street behind the big department store BHV on Rivoli Street). It was inexpensive (by Paris standards, of course) and very, very good. Have a nice trip! Dear eaters, On the Ile St. Louis, one can find the Relais de l'Ile and the Auberge de la Reine Blanche on opposite sides of the rue St. Louis en l'Ile, the Auberge on the north side of the street and closer to the eastern end of the island. Both friendly, both small, both very good. Both friendly, both small, both very good. I had dinner twice at La Reine Blanche in Paris during my last visit. The veal is excellent. I second the above post. Remove abc for e-mail reply. We always go to a small restaurant called L'encroyable, I think it's at the Rue du Richelieu, sorry, don't remember the street number. You should be able to find out somehow. Really nice, home cooking style, french cuisine, friendly atmosphere. cheers Hildigunnur. > Can anyone recommend a moderately priced (i.e., under $50./person) > restaurant in Paris? > > Thanks > > Liz
