Robin,

Thanks for your recommendations for Key West. The trip was great! Now I'll reciprocate -- in addition to some of the great places you suggested (along with several others who replied to my post), here's a "must do" add to any trip. A place called Blue Heaven, two blocks off Duval in the Bahama Village.

Great food, all outdoor dining, wonderful (very casual) atomsphere, and interesting shops and sights within the confines of the restaurant/bar/art gallery/shops/rooster cemetery (former location of infamous cock fights held on the island). They even have a hugh rope swing to keep the kids amused.

The food we had was of the same quality as (probably even better than) one of the fine dining restaurants (Louie's Back Yard) and the bill was only around half as much.

Again, thanks for taking the time to pass on your recommendations.

You should try:

The Columbia Restaurant at The Pier in St Pete - Spanish ethnic with seafood dishes, wonderful view of the water. You can find their number in any phone book when you get there. They will give you a card for free valet parking after you eat, so enjoy having someone take care of your car for you.

Crabby Bills on St. Pete Beach - good food, good prices, casual, get to know your fellow diners because you will sit at the same picnic table with them. The crab lady will take your picture with a funny hat on you.

Casual Clam in middle St. Pete around 9th St. N and 32nd Ave. N. - good food, excelent prices, casual, limited seating. All kinds of seafood.

Try any of the Leverocks for great selections of fine dining. About 7 locations.

The Hurricane on Pass-a-grille Beach, south of St. Pete Beach - Restaurant, Bar, Nightclub all-in-one. Two stories; three if you count the roof wherethey have a tiki hut that serves specialty drinks.

BeachNutts is between St. Pete Beach and Treasure Island - Bar and grille with a simple menu and a great view. Has live entertainment in the evenings.

Nah, Kathy and Corey! If you are going to go to the Columbia, then
go to the Columbia! The one in TAMPA, the ORIGINAL, the CLASSIC located in Ybor City, a Tampa neighorhood. It has been there for 90 years now, the oldest restaurant in Florida, and is the center of Spanish action.

The other "Columbias" (St. Pete, Sarasota, Daytona, ect.) are owned
by the same corporation, use the same name and advertising style, but can't hold a candle to the original, either in food, staffing, or ambiance. It's only a twenty-minute drive from downtown St. Petersburg, just off of Interstate 4, and has owned parking across the street, as well as valet parking. Be sure to call for reservations, catch the noisy and lively floorshow, and pick up a copy great new cookbook by the owner. Finally, you will be suprised by the reasonable prices, especially compared with those in the North.
