Try the Crab House in Lake Buena Vista. It's casual but the food was very fresh. (I was raised on the Chesapeake and have lived in Florida for the last 20 years and feel somewhat qualified on the subject of fresh seafood.) They have a seafood "bar" that's all you can eat with fresh blue crabs, mussels, shrimp, clams, tuna, crayfish and other items for about $18.00. An even better deal (for me) was a spicy pasta dish for $11.00 with the seafood bar thrown in for another $8.00! I ate all the shellfish I wanted, had some pasta and took the leftovers home for breakfast! In all honesty though, Orlando is full of good restaurants but I would steer clear of the chains; nothing new. For Japanese try Rangetsu. Also try Arthur's on top of the Lake Buena Vista Palace for an international flavor but plan on dropping about $100 for 2, not including libations. Also Chatham's Place on Phillips Blvd. Also pricey but well worth it. Hope this gets you started!

We visited in August and found a fine steakhouse in a strip mall next to our hotel, the old Hyatt Orlando. Called Charley's, it featured oak-grilled steaks. The 32 oz. porterhouse for $22 split beautifully for two, with a $4 plate chargee that brought all the support dishes to both of us. It was a good meal, a fine value and we'd return. American-grill ambiance, parking in front, full bar, accepts reservations and credit cards. My only knock was the absence of a non-smoking section, but that appears to be a regional malady down there.
The best cup of coffee in Orlando is brewed at the Chinese pavillion at Epcott Center. Epcott has several good restaurants of differing nationalities.
I'll give a nod to the beers, the convivality, the pot-pies and the fish 'n' chips at the English pavillion. And recommend the German Bier Garten as a good lunch value with a splendid buffet and good beer. The only downside is, unlike the English pub, you can only visit when buying lunch or dinner, not simply to have bar food or beer.

The food is pretty good, but pricy in most Disney restaurants, but frankly, when I am on vacation in a place like WDW, I don't worry about prices for food since its time to have fun and splurge.
