Watson Research Lines: 43 I was in Clearwater this past weekend, and I have some comments on restaurants there, some recommended on the net, others not. We went to Leverocks for lunch when we arrived. It was good, nice view, nothing really special though. The prices were VERY reasonable. For dinner that night we nosed out a great place, Frenchy's Rockaway Grill on the Beach. The food was great, and the setting was wonderful. They had a terrace overlooking the beach. It is stone crab season, so we had those, conch fritters and a couple of other things that were quite good. On Sat. we went to Honeymoon Island, north of Clearwater, so we decided to go to Tarpon Springs for lunch since we had heard so much about Pappas. When we got there it was not at all what we expected: it was a huge building, and the crowd looked like it had just arrived on large tour buses. We waited for a table, and we were shown to one in the back with no view. When we requested something closer to the window we were told we could try smoking. At that point the first hostess completely ignored us. We finally found the smoking section, and people there also ignored us. Then we spotted another room (the bay room?) which looked like it had some seats. We went up to the hostess there who told us to wait, and then pointedly picked up the phone and told the first hostess not to send her any more people since she had no room (not true). Then we tried to follow her to a table, but she barked at us to wait at the entrance. At this point I was quite annoyed, and my husband felt likewise, so we left. That was a great idea, as we ended up at a small cosy place called Costa's where had had some great shrimp and an amazing grilled snapper. I highly recommend this place. We also tried a restaurant called the "Hungry Fisherman" which was about the same quality food as Leverock's. They did have one great thing though, an "onion flower" which was a huge vidalia onion that was cut to look like a flower, breaded and fried. Yum. On Sunday we went back to Frenchy's for lunch. The sun was out, there was a guitar player who was pretty good, and we were quite happy after some drinks, conch fritters, and jerk grouper. All in all a nice weekend! /C [email removed]
