For Indian food, try "Masala" on Seymour (on the corner of either Drake or Davie). It's trendier in its presentation than your usual Indian restaurant, and the food is great. Nice atmosphere, too.

For excellent Vietnamese noodle soups, there a place on E. Broadway (on the south-east corner of Broadway and Fraser). Sorry I can't remember the name, but it's got a big awning and it's the only Vietnamese restaurant on the block. Their whole menu is pretty good, but the soups are the best (rich, seasoned homemade broths!). The ambience is non-existent, though!

That's all I can think of at the moment. Have fun!

Best cheap Vietnamese in Vancouver's Chinatown is a place called "My Xuan" at 714 Main. It's a family-run operation, with Mama cooking the most amazing regional specialties, like crab dishes and beef ragout like I've never been able to find elsewhere... Everything's super-fresh -- they're constantly making runs to the neighborhood produce markets. Finish off with some heavenly iced espresso.

Bon Apetit.

Downtown eateries in Vanc:
Sapporo Shogun Resturant has great Japanese noodle soups for around 5 bucks. Stepho's for good Greek food. William Tell Resurant for european dishes (expensive)

There are many many others that I really like, but they are not downtown. contact me if you want further suggestions.
