I would recommend Ricky's Resturant.  They are everywhere in B.C. inexpensive and serve the kind of food you are looking for.

For a great breakfast treat, go to The Elbow Room (if it's still there: I haven't been out to Van for a while).  The restaurant is as large as its name suggests, so you may have to wait for a table, but it's a fun spot.
